Project Overview

BRIEF BACKGROUND

GEOPET is pet walking mobile application designed to enhanced the experience of pet walking by integrating location-based services and pet care management features. It aims to provide a convenient, engaging, and efficient way for pet owners, walkers, and sitters to manage and track pet-related activities.

THE PROBLEM

As a startup company, GEOPET aims to hit the ground running by integrating a UX Designer into its team from the outset. They understand the importance of creating a user-centered, intuitive, and engaging app. They asked me to help improve the current designs so they are polished, accessible, and user-friendly to their customers.

INTERFACE BEFORE

Exploring the work space

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Finding inspiration from other companies who are similar to GEOPT will help create designs that will fit their needs. I analyzed three similar companies in order to determine what they had in common that worked and did not work.

COMPARISON

Wag! tracks walk in real time and tracks pet routes

ANALYSIS:

Wag! tracks walks in real-time and allows owners to view their pet's route. They also allow the user to create a detailed pet profile, including health and behavior.

GEOPET:

With GEOPET, I think being able to track real-track walks and allow the user to create a detail profile will be great features to add to the application. It would be user friendly and fun to use.

DogPack emphasizes building a community

ANALYSIS:

DogPack's focus is creating its own community with social networking. You can log walks, playtime, and social interactions. You can share photos and see nearby parks, pet stores, and services.

GEOPET:

With GEOPET, logging walks, showing nearby parks, and pet walking activities to do with your dog is a great way to stay interactive in the app and allows you to explore more.

Rover provides a detailed activity report

ANALYSIS:

Rover allows pet owners to track their pet's walk live. It also provides a detailed reports including distance, duration, and route.

GEOPET:

With GEOPET, I think it is important to track your pet's live route and to be able to provide a detail report including distance, duration and route will make the app more intuitive and fun for people to want to keep using it.

Gaining a different perspective

MEETINGS WITH CEO

Weekly meetings between myself and the CEO of GEOPET are crucial for maintaining alignment between design initiatives and business goals. These meetings foster effective collaboration, support informed decision-making, and ensure that the UX design contributes to the company’s strategic vision. By facilitating ongoing feedback, resource allocation, and innovation, these meetings help create a user-centric, strategically focused product that meets market demands and positions GEOPET for success.

Building empathy

USER PERSONAS

Understanding these personas helps tailor the GEOPET app to cater to different user needs, ensuring a user-centered design that enhances the pet walking experience for various types of users.

Connecting the dots

FINDINGS

User research is crucial for UX designers as it provides a deep understanding of user needs, informs design decisions, enhances usability, and supports a user-centered approach. By grounding the design process in real user insights, UX designers create more intuitive, engaging, and successful mobile applications that meet and exceed user expectations, leading to higher satisfaction, engagement, and retention.

Creating a plan

TASK FLOW

I contributed to developing GEOPET's initial tutorial steps for new users during sign-up. Based on our feedback, we emphasized creating an engaging and user-friendly process. This involved crafting a 'how the app works' tutorial that highlights the app's core features; activities, geopoints, and coupons/offers. This task flow starts when the user clicks on the GEOPET app to the Dashboard home page.

Visual Design

UI ILLUSTRATIONS/COLOR SUGGESTIONS

For GEOPET, the typography, icons, logo, and buttons were pre-selected, but I proposed adjustments to enhance accessibility. Specifically, I recommended making the primary and secondary CTA button colors more vibrant to improve visibility. Additionally, I created custom hand-drawn vector illustrations that personalized the app by depicting the CEO and his dog, adding a unique touch on the sign up/home page.

Testing the product

LOW FIDELITY WIREFRAME

Testing a mobile application in low-fidelity wireframes allows UX designers to rapidly iterate, validate core functionality and flow, and gather early feedback in a cost-effective manner. This approach minimizes risk, fosters collaboration, and ensures that the foundation of the design is user-centered and functional before progressing to detailed design and development. During this phase, we were able to make some rapid changes within the "Select Activity" page to make it more organized.

USABILITY TESTING

Usability testing is crucial for UX designers as it validates design decisions, enhances user satisfaction, improves efficiency and effectiveness, reduces development costs, and increases product success. By providing real user insights, it ensures that the product meets user needs, aligns with market demands, and offers a competitive advantage. Through continuous feedback and iteration, usability testing leads to a more refined, accessible, and user-centered design, ultimately contributing to the creation of successful and engaging products.

Bringing it to life

HIGH FIDELITY PROTOTYPE

Having completed the usability testing and finalized the wireframes, I am now ready to integrate the UI Kit into my designs. In doing so, I will leverage the insights gained throughout the process to ensure the product is both distinctive and successful. In addition to help redesign the mobile application, the CEO requested my assistance with their marketing site. Click the "GEOPET Website" CTA button below and sign up for early access to see the application live. I also created to the ‘Turn Every Walk Into a Rewarding Experience’ on the marketing site which is live but I also included it in this slide deck.
